Caps and Taps turns 11 this month and we’ve brewed a West Coast IPA with Burnt Mill.

One of the first “craft beer trips” that Steph and Phill took was to California in 2012. Big resinous West Coast IPAs were the goal. Sure the beer scene has moved a bit since then and we drink and sell more hazy beers, but these clear, crisp and bitter IPAs are our first true love.

We even had the pleasure of making this beer alongside brewing legend, Jeff Bagby. It features an ultimate West Coast hop profile (Cascade, Simcoe, Columbus, Comet & Chinook) with multiple hop additions, resulting in a complex and robust bitterness that retains citrusy, pine, and resinous flavours.

When Burnt Mill started they named all their beers after the names of fields local to them up in Suffolk. Historically Tufnell Park/Kentish Town consisted of dairy farms with plenty of fields but we couldn’t find any interesting historical names to use. Fields Beneath is a reference to what used to exist in our area, and links nicely to our collab with Track last year which we named after the river Fleet.
